Shalunya (Shal-loon-ya) suffers from Arnold Chiari Malformation, type 1, and uses beauty products to help maintain a positive attitude which is an important key to controlling pain. After being diagnosed in 2005, she had to completely alter her life to cope with her illness. She began blogging in 2009 in order to alleviate some of her feelings of frustration. In 2013 her love of beauty products spilled over into her personal blog and has become the main focus of her blog. Although, she has no professional beauty training she feels her perspective of utilizing beauty products as part of maintaining her health is unique enough that it deserves a voice within the beauty blogging community. She feels a kinship with women everywhere who cope with chronic illness and chronic pain on a daily basis. Shalunya works part time at a non-profit organization.
Boyet (Boy-yet) immigrated to America in July 2012 from the Philippines in order to build a life with Shalunya whom he met playing poker on Facebook. The immigration process has been long and arduous but he finally received his permanent resident card or green card in October 2013. He was then able to obtain the job he desired at a premier restaurant located on the top floors of skyscraper. His wicked since of humor and positive attitude is crucial to the success of their marriage. While establishing relationships with Shalunya's family, including her grown son, Boyet is still working toward bringing his 2 daughters to America. Although, he tends to be more reserved about his personal life, he appreciates the fact that blogging has been instrumental in maintaining Shalunya's quality of life. He appreciates her obsession with beauty products as he sees the way it can lift her spirits.
